How to Commission a Painting

Contact me through my website email to discuss details and ideas. Stories about your pet are always helpful when capturing their personalities.

Choices Number of Pets, Size, Background (color or scene). A sample (swatch) of a particular color, or the pet photographed in the setting/scene of choice is the best way to get the exact color or scenic background desired. If you want a specific background, please send a separate photo to have a clear image of the scene.

Payment Order Form Once all details are decided you will need to fill out an order form (that I will email to you) and mail it back to me with a 50% non–refundable deposit. I will begin work on your portrait when the initial payment is received.

Photographs Send detailed high quality photographic prints or digital images of your pet. Send one photo of the exact picture you would like painted of your pet. More than one photo can be helpful but not necessary. The better the photos the more successful the painting. The sharper the photo the better.

Copyright All portraits are painted with professional grade oil paint on canvas. All paintings are original and one of a kind. You are purchasing the original painting but the copyright is still owned by the artist. No reproductions are permitted for commercial use.

Delivery After your deposit is received, your portrait will be scheduled in the order it was received along with other orders. Delivery time also depends on the scope of the project and the number of other orders in the queue. Once I receive your order I can narrow down the time line, and once painting commences I can provide a more accurate delivery date.

Once the painting is finished I will e-mail you a digital photograph of the finished work. No major changes can be made at this time, however small adjustments may be discussed.

Payment Balance The balance of the payment is due upon completion of the painting. The painting will be shipped certified via UPS or Fed ex when the final payment is received.

A high quality photograph can make a difference...

Get down at eye level of your pet. Engage him and try to get a picture where he is looking into the camera. It is best to show both eyes in the photos.

Lighting is very important. Try to take pictures outside in moderate light. If it is too sunny, harsh shadows will occur and not show the necessary detail. Light, luminous shade is best. Sunny effects are great just be careful of too dark of shadows.

When taking photos inside try to avoid using a flash. Use natural indoor light. The flash usually causes red eye. Seeing the eyes clearly is key to capturing your pet’s personality. Do not send photos where your pet has red eye. It can be helpful to have another person engage your pet while you take photos.
